what if there was a movie that celebrated the male as the most capable of tackling the world crisis? i believe a lot of feminists would criticize it, demanding equal rights, etc.
yes, i disagree with the premise of this movie. the focus is on defining the ideal recipient, a fallacious effort. the emphasis should be on the giver, the donator.
it is the act of compassion that matters, it is the act of compassion that can truly change the world - and not the recipients gender
this premise is flawed. it doesn't have to be a girl. in fact the recipient is irrelevant. the focus should be on compassion towards others, and not on which one we should choose.
besides, a cow is a investment for your money. we could give her land and seeds instead.
we already spend billions cycling crops through the animals we eat. it creates a lot of air and water pollution too. moreover, animal products are full of cholesterol, saturated fat, no fiber nor complex carbs.
Why are we so worried about how these rural countries are surviving when our country is just as bad? Look at china, India, Africa, Europe... countries that hundreds of years old than America. They have been surviving with this same method for years.
Most of these idiot's have such backward ass beliefs. The problem isn't as simple as women not having money or opportunities. The societies they live in are failing for a reason, so giving money to support them rewards bad behavior and ultimately changes nothing. Give an example of one project where only one group of people in a community were given assistance and there was a positive outcome in the long run.
@dans89 "The societies they live in are failing for a reason, so giving them money to support them rewards bad behavior"
The microfinance program is not 'giving away' money, it requires repayment and holds the borrower responsible, so it ISN'T rewarding anything. Perhaps a big part of the problem in developing countries is the way one gender is not educated or allowed equal opportunity? Why don't we give women money and opportunity and see what happens? I bet it works.
Let's give a woman a loan And watch her husband beat her up so he can have it. Then watch all the villagers meet and decide to drive all foreign aid and microfinance institutions away. Because they are undermining their cultural norms. Unintended consequences happen.
It isn't "men haven't made any difference, so let's give women a try". It's about giving women a *chance* to make a difference along *with* the men in their communities. These are places where women are seen as a commodity, not human. It's not a gender gap in economy where women earn 75 c to the dollar that men earn like in the US. We are talking about places where women are bought and sold, often as slaves. They are not getting education or vaccinations like the men, so they are dying unjustly.
