I think Lady Gaga proves their theory wrong. Superstars will be more androgynous, more sexual deviant, more fantastical because the medium hasn't been exhausted yet. When Madonna rose to super stardom she was considered a harlot, a vagabond, a rebel...etc and yet by today's standards, she wasn't all that "out there". But the interesting question is what will replace it? Or does it become the end of irrational worship? There's a metaphor for America in there too.

I think the difference between Madonna and Timberlake being able to express themselves clearly, aside from the fact that Madonna is an extremely focused, intellectually driven person, she's also extremely fit and eats a diet that is designed to keep her going, which is what you have to do if you want to have staying power in the music industry. She's been at this for nearly 30 years. It's her life. Timberlake wasn't even 30 years old at the time and seems as if he might be a bit ADD, to start.
