Maple Grove, Ohio is located northeast of Fostoria on NS' ex NKP Chicago-Buffalo mainline. Here it crosses the ex-PRR Toledo mainline which is now owned by the Northern Ohio & Western Railroad (NOW). The Northern Ohio & Western was formed in 1995 to operate this route from Tiffin to Woodville, Ohio. They succeeded Indiana Hi-Rail who had previously purchased it from Conrail in 1990. Conrail, (and now CSX), operates it from Woodville north to Toledo. The NOW's products consist of grain and aggregates. They are a division of Omnitrax.

We caught three movements in less than a half-hour! Our first train is a long 127-car NS train heading east with a GP40 and a C36-7 both running long-hood forward! After the NS train clears, we have a look at the Northern Ohio & Western's GP7 #4497 as it drops off a cut of cars at the interchange and pulls up to the diamond.

She, (the engineer was female), must wait for a 100-car westbound NS coal train to pass. Pulled by two accelerating C40-9W's, the rebuilt hoppers create a catchy rhythm as they clatter across the diamond. No sooner than the coal train clears, the 4497 notches up and crosses the diamond to head north. Then she backs into the quarry on the north side of the NS tracks. This unit is ex-C&NW.

  • How far did the line operate originally which I am talking about NOW railway.

  • It did and still runs from Tiffin to Woodville. The line south of Tiffin was abandoned by Conrail in 1984 to Carrothers. South of Carrothers, it was abandoned by the PRR to Mansfield in 1959, and they used the Sandusky Line to access it at Carrothers.

  • Does NOW still do this because i watch them in woodville all the time but dont know much about them. Does now still have the OMNItrax loco as well all i see these days is a very beat up blue engine and a Central Kannsas Railway locomotive.

  • Oh yes when did they abandon Hayes-Albion?

  • Your next video should be CSX in Woodville even though you might not have an old video

  • I seen part of the line exists but is in bad shape I seen where they used to have Hayes-Albion foundry just past Tiffin.

  • An omnitrax line

  • Yeah that interchanges with CSX in Tiffin.

  • I used to live close to that track near Tiffin.
