I've been in the avian field, for nearly 15yrs now. This footage, obviously doesn't surprise me, in the least. Heron's are notorious, for eating ANYTHING and i mean anything, they can fit down there throats. I've seen Great-Blue Heron's eating Rabbits whole, believe it or not...!!! This all said, they "prefer" fish, salamanders, crayfish, small turtles, etc...But if there hungry, WATCH OUT....!!! Great video capture, by whomever got this footage.

This is great footage. I had no idea herons ate anything other than fish. And it swallowed that gopher WHOLE. It was like watching a snake eat--strike and swallow.
