Professionals vs Posers

i cut this music video strictly for the sake of my reel. i wanted to get some gigs as an editor, but had nothing to really show. a few of my friends suggested to cut a few music videos and trailers.

this mv focuses on the differences btn professionals and posers and the transition from one status to the other. my film instructor always told me to avoid losers posing as independent filmmakers. you can see how the same person (takumi) can be seen as as both. this turned out to be a very good product for me.

i cut this video using cs3 because cs4 was too much for my current setup. i wanted to use avid mc originally, but the software required heavy conversions of the video files used. it ended up killing my hdd and i didnt want to rely on an ext in case it crashed. the footage was from "initial d: fourth stage" and the music is the jason nevin's remix of n.e.r.d.'s "rockstar".

i have a few fans (literally, like two) who have been waiting for this video to come out. i apologize for the lag, but exporting is not as easy as it sounds. i hope it plays well.


pros: i enjoyed how i was able to sync the clips with the beat. i did a much better job than on my "rotary love" video. as i mentioned, exporting was tricky, and i am glad to find a way to do it without messing with the integrity of the clips/song. i like the tone/tempo of this video better as well. i felt that i really related to the message of this video.

cons: this turned out to be a fan-style mv. so those who dont watch/understand the original series might be turned off by this. the message isnt obvious. that can help and hinder an audience's reaction. i think the story in "rotary love" was much easier to portray.... exporting was extremely challenging.
