Heritage Turkey Hen with Day Old Poults

This hen hid her nest and hatched out these baby turkeys (poults) all by herself. She is quite proud of them walking around the ranch. Watch how the babies learn what to eat by watching their Mother. They watch her every move. You can also hear their calls to eachother in the background.

Yes, these are Spanish Black. The hen actually does not have the nicest coloring. They should be solid - none of that greyish silver color. If not for her great Mothering skills she would have celebrated TGiving differently. But now that she has proven herself she has earned a spot on the ranch.

Just got a Black Spanish myself - maybe 15 days old or so. Wish I could talk turkey to him since he seems so out of sorts. I'm running him next to my Barred Rock hens for now and he sleeps in the garage at night until he's a bit bigger. The hens peck at him so I have to keep him separate.
