The cave dweller communities of the South Hebron Hills are among the most disempowered communities in Palestine. They are poor farmers and shepherds that suffer from systematic discrimination by the Israeli occupation: they are not connected to the power grid or to the water supply system, eviction and demolition orders from their homes and land are routinely used and an economically chocking system of road blocks are only some of the hardships they face on a daily basis. Moreover, they are exposed to direct settler aggression.

In the past two years, the Villages Group has initiated a Renewable Energy Initiative by which 20 families in Susya were equipped with small solar systems and two wind turbines to provide basic home needs of illumination, small radio or TV and mobile phone charging. A course on wind turbine construction was also held to members of the community and other Palestinians from across the west bank.

We wish to expand the project along the following lines:
•Expansion: Expanding the project to other communities such as Um-El Kheir, Mufagara, Tuba and others.
•Livelihood support: Providing community energy facility to support refrigerators and washing machines. These facilities will also help develop dairy production and as a result support local livelihood.
•Water access: Developing the water system in the area.
•Capacity building: Establishing a local maintenance team that will be able to maintain and later install new systems.

We seek funds and support in order to continue our activity.
