Saw WIRE last night in Newcastle at the Academy . . . about 250 people in a sweaty low ceilinged venue . . . they were exemplary . . . I knew 70/30 of the playlist . . . the stuff I had'nt heard was brilliant (with audio addiction just a few listenings away) . . . but what touched my heart was the two encores they played, with much gusto . . . and with a ineffable edge that just keeps self honing . . . an iron fist in an invisible glove . . . long may they reign.

Jeez seeing Wire as they were back in those days of this quality is RARE, mega thanks to benfox for uloading this. Wire were one of the few cult punk bands from the 70's punk movement, lilghtyears ahead of the pack alongside Magazine (another of my favourite bands from the punk days)

Wire are completely wasted on that audience, who look as if they are waiting for a delayed flight or a school announcement--in fact they look about as interested as Bruce does :)
-
Why didn't they play this? Everybody kept calling for the old stuff, but they concentrated on the new album.
-
Brilliant - can't wait to see them at The Scala Feb 2nd 2011. I missed them live way back then. Wire and Joy Division are in my humble opinion the best bands ever.

greatest song ever

This song is incredible. one of the hardest, most powerful, most vicious songs i know, without ever getting histrionic or OTT.

this stuff is sooo great. sounds at times like early Floyd, or an angular Buzzcocks, a bit of the Banshees, but as a whole, it's incredibly unique and I can hear the influence in tons of bands who came later.
I've always known of Wire (intro via Minor Threat) and it's strange that they never came up on my radar when I was listening to Joy Division, Banshees, PiL, Damned, Glad to finally hear and SEE them. Brilliant stuff.

benfox I just want to say thank you so very much. Wire played a pivotal role in my life and in the influence of so many artists that followed them. I live in New Zealand and had never before seen this show or had the chance to see the band play live. This is the highlight of my online year.So thanks again WIRE and you Rock.
Metal bands wish they could rock this hard.

I taped this tune Dec 1979, when Alan Bangs and Peter Rüchel (WDR, Cologne, Broadcast Station which recorded this) aired the "best Rockpalast-Songs of 1979", on my fathers new VHS-Video-Deck..
This song and "Heartbeat" from same studio-concert are the best tunes I´ve ever heard.
Now I´m nearly 50 and this songs are still my favorites.
- A really great band -
And:
