This is in the middle of the metropolis of Los Angeles, filmed right off my balcony. The young hawk is sitting kind of helpless on a telephone pole while his mother discoveres a snake in a recenly plowed field. This is nature's adoption of an urban lifestyle.

you are correct, the bird on the pole and the bird vocalizing are American Kestrels, the bird with the snake is a Red Tailed Hawk.
It's a very good video, few people are able to capture such high quality video of animals without disturbing them.

I agree, the falcon on the pole is an American Kestrel, the second is a red-tailed hawk, you kind of get a glimpse of its tail before it flies off.

good call. Definetly red tail on the ground.
I almost thought coopers hawk for the one on the pole, but it is too small, so has to be a kestrel. We have many of all 3 species in so california

the bird on the pole is not related. Not even the same species. the bird on the pole is a kestrel, while the bird with the snake is a red tailed hawk. A kestrel is a type of FALCON not a hawk.
