Marcel Jacob - R.I.P.
"It is with deep regret & remorse I, along with fellow members of Talisman, am announcing our brother, long time colleague & overall greatest musician we've ever played with, Marcel Jacob, is no longer with us as of today, Tue July 21, 2009. Marcel took his own life after many years of personal & health issues he was battling.

We were mere days from starting what would have been our 8th Talisman studio album together, celebrating the 20 year anniversary of the band. I spoke with him just yesterday about finalizing the details that would get us started only to get the news this afternoon that my friend merely gave up on it all.

I want him to be remembered as everything I have already mentioned above but more so, he helped influence so many musicians & songwriters. He was a quiet, gentle soul with a very intense passion for his craft. I have been associated with him since 1984 but it was when we started Talisman is when he truly became a brother, one of my dearest friends.

It is far too early to say anything now but I plan to organize a memorial for his legacy, although not known by the masses, the ones who do see him as the genius I know he was.

R.I.P. my friend, you will be sorely missed, you will be in my heart forever & I'll see you on the other side...I hope now you will get your dream & jam with Phil Lynott!!"

  • I don't think any instrument should have limits to what you can play on it. If people want to play rock style solo's on the bass then why not? Bass shouldn't be just limited to funk/slap style or anything else.

  • Its a guitar player with a Bass . Not because he uses a pick , but because of the way he construct he's solo . he still can play , but i wouldn't in a 1000 years take him has an example for aspiring bass players.

It is the way of guy who played guitar and had to switch to bass . he is NOT a bassplayer . But still a good musician.

  • @MrFou72 Don't be stupid enough to judge for 1 vid, listen to he's discography first.

  • this guy practiced for years and one day showed his friends "been done" they said and showed him a vid of Edward Van Halen. After crying in his beer for some time he said fuck it ill just play bass then.

  • Now that is how you shred on bass that was amazing Rest In Peace Mr. Marcel Jacob

  • @MrFou72 Oh so being a bassist means you can't do a rock shred style solo; those are very ignorant words my friend.

  • @MrFou72

He plays bass and in a wonderful manner.. So He's a bass player. Period.

  • the pick is a tool for the musician and if he/she chooses to use the pick for their respective instrument then who the fuck are you to say it's wrong. Picking, finger style, slap, tapping...all of those are right so stop with the negativity and just play music....damn!

  • @MrFou72 The way he constructs his solos is called "Neo-Classical" or shred. Just because he isn't slapping or playing some Bootsie Collins crap doesn't make him any less of a bassist. Check out the Talisman song "Colour My XTC", and you'll feel really embarassed for knocking Marcel Jacob.

  • Nice playing.

  • this guy is almost like a pick version of billy sheehan
