This discusses the issues I'm having with the Mohawk Dakota Silver carpet installed at my home in November of 2010. 8 months on I'm still having problems with it clogging up my vacuum cleaner . Mohawk claims there is nothing wrong with this carpet after a sample was sent back to their "lab" .

  • , It is not uncommon for staple fibers to fill vacuum bags 3 times in some. You mentioned that Lowes had great customer service, but I tend to disagree, seems like they would have alerted you that this would be normal prior to selling you this carpet. The only way to avoid this is to get a woven carpet or a continuous filament (BCF). Not that normal retail carpet stores don't sell staple fiber carpet, but I hope you learned your lesson buying carpet from stores! :)

  • Most likely the plant closing you mentioned is related to the economy since any material used in new home construction has been hard hit by the recession.

Most likely your carpet is a staple fiber which means it will shed. What you see in your vacuum is normal. The carpet industry has been making carpet this way for decades (some carpet fibers made in a different way won't shed). Replacing this carpet with another staple fiber carpet won't eliminate this.
