This is a slide show movie showing how to tie a hook onto a leader using a snell knot. The snell I am using requires that both ends of the line used are free so that each end will be able to pass through the eye. With a little practice it is a very fast and easy way to snell a hook. I set up the video so it could be paused either on the instructions or the photos for a closer look.

  • This is incorrect !!

  • @FlatHeadFletch how so? I have been using it for nearly 10 years and have caught fish over 60lbs and NEVER lost a fish due to this knot failing. There are several variations on the snell knot out there. This one is quick and easy to tie and holds well.

  • cool... i do it a lil differently, but nothing holds like a snell... even helps with hook up's

  • Definately helps with the hook up's. Especially when used with a circle hook. Keeps the hook aligned with the pull on the leader for maximun penetration.

It is not a snell, that's how. It may work, but you advertised a snell, and a snell it is not...

  • It's hard to teach an old dog new tricks. But now that I actually tried your snell which is or should I say very different than what I have been useing for the last 40 years. Very very easy. Very strong. Thanx

  • thats exactly right! it pretty much makes the hook part of the line... no spining, or twisting
