Simple scene made in Blender 3D and rendered with Luxrender. It took 178 hours or about 7.4 days to render. Each frame took about 2 hours to render (the first 89 frames repeat several times).

  • My interest in using LuxRender is because it attempts to mimic the properties of real materials. Based on photos of marbles and crystal balls it looks like LuxRender does the IOR correctly. I could make the IOR less severe by making the ball hollow and keeping the IOR the same.

  • Nice render, looks great. The IOR is neat. If you do any more, try out a less distorted IOR, so you can see through the object. It's neat to try different stuff in Lux (btw, I wasn't telling you the IOR in this animation is bad and you should make it less distorted, I was saying just try it out =) )
