How is Wynton a racist? I've seen him play with whites, asians, and mexicans. In fact in the early 80's my father, who is white, hung out with Wynton and Branford. He said Wynton was really cool.

Such intelligence and harmonic variation. I am always wowed by Wynton's ability to fully express himself on the trumpet. Bless him.

as a black i will say this, that the older blacks- those in their early forties on are definitely more skin color conscious than those in their twenties. thirties and those still in their teens. i guess it just has alot to do with the way that they have experienced the world growin gup.

Racist? Wynton? No, just educated. Not less that a generation ago blacks and whites were drinking out of different water fountains. Believe it, we are more racist than we care to think. It will take time before social equality is a reality in America. And I'm whiter than I care to believe. We can all say how past racism we are until we hire someone. I guarantee we will hire the guy that looks the most like us. Human nature - and the system in America today favors the white male.

Got to love Caravan - first time I heard it, it was The New Society Synchopators at The Fountain in Barnton, Edinburgh. Featuring "Chick Murray" on drums for the solo!

Such a crazy tune! I love the twist they have (what interval is it?) with the sax and trumpet in the main section.

Wynton's improvisation's so crazy man...... I loved it.

The House of Tribes audiences are always so damn into the perfomance and generally looks like a nice atmosphere. Those things come together for some sick playing!!! Thanks for posting these videos!

Wynton used to hold racist views about white jazz musicians, but has since recanted those statements. A lot of that is discussed in Ethan Iverson's (The Bad Plus) blog "Do The Math", when Iverson conducted an interview with Marsalis.
I've had the pleasure of sitting in with him when LCJO came into Atlanta. He's a good cat with such a head on his shoulders for both music and jazz history. Plus, he's got a great sense of style. Who can hate that?
