Season 2 of Boba's Intergalactic Free Drum Lessons

So Boba, as it turns out, is a huge huge fan of Quasi. But even more so than the band, he has some major force (of the dark side kind) for their drummer Janet Weiss. She's a bad ass female drummer who has killed it on the skins for acts like Sleater-Kinney, Elliott Smith, and many others including Quasi.

This particular drum part is bad ass to the most bad assery you can imagine bad assing. It's a two/three polyrhythm merged that makes for a really impressive drum pattern. The key is keeping the kick going to drive the groove and keep the energy going. As always we'd love feedback and if anyone knows Princess Weiss please tell her the federation would like a word with her about joining the dark side. May the fours be with you!

well, in the case of "Quadrant 4", he's playing his Zickos Acrylic Kit just mic'd up with good mics, analog tape, and vintage compressors....all pretty stock stuff for the day (1975 or 6) with I think Remo Ambassadors..... We used to call Billy COBham, Billy GODham. I saw him recently doing songs from that particular album, "Spectrum" and he sounded EXACTLY the same....which was, of course, AWESOME!!! Now listen to "Space Boogie" by Jeff Beck with Simon P on drums....

  • Yo i just gave quadrent 4 a listen and man your right it sounds like alex took that beat right from that song lol. Do you have any idea how they tune to get such a solid sound on bass/toms or is it studio magic?

  • @TheRealGpig

    Yo Gpig,

Ya know, that's one of my favorites, but without the simmons pad ( I think that's what he used) triggering the bass drum sample you hear before his acoustic kicks come in, it would be hard to hook it all up and make it sound right. But you can check out Billy Cobham's classic, "Quadrant 4". That's where Alex V and Simon P (amongst others) got their uh, er....how shall I say?..."Inspiration"?.....hahaha......

May the fours be with you!

Well, aren't you nice for saying so!! I happen to agree!! hahahahaha....LOL!!

I'll take 'quality' comments over 'quantity' comments any day!

    Give in to the darkside,

    BF

  • I don't know why these awesome lessons lack views. People are really missing out.

  • Another sweet video, taught nicely as usual. Hey i dont know if you take suggestions for your drum lesson videos, but i think i would be neat if went over the intro to 'Hot for Teacher' by van halen. Anyways keep up the good work.
