@ljliljohn What do you know - replying to myself! Not only is the Brubeck version of 'La Paloma Azul' on Youtube, but my comment is there also. Enjoy.
This melody was taken from an old mexican song 'La Paloma Azul' (The Blue Dove). If you want to hear one of the most beautiful solos ever by Paul Desmond, the original song is on the LP 'Bravo Brubeck' - I suspect it is on CD also.
This is that instumental I didn't too much care for. There were many mant instrumentals, more than anyones led to believe, during the doowop era and this was one of them. This was also one that wasn't played at our noon hour sock hops, sorry, but if the gals wanted to waltz they preferred Johnny Angel by Shelley Fabraes. This isn't quite the original, but very similiar. It is a preety instrumental, and would tie in nicely at any beach party south of the 49th parallel. Thx4 postin gotta fly
