EDIT: I fixed it! So if this happens to anyone else this is how I did it. First go to: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx then select your graphics card type and model. This page will bring you to the old version page. Then choose and older driver that has "WHQL Certified" for me I had to use this version "GeForce/ION Release 260" then download a older driver and do not install just yet. Then go to the Control Panel and go to "Add of Remove Programs" then once that it opened and there is a list of programs go down to N then select "NVidia Display Driver" and click uninstall. Once all of the NVidia components are uninstalled unplug your internet "This way so Microsoft Windows will not automatically install a driver." Then restart your computer. Then once your computer has started up and you have logged on, Open the NVidia setup and install. Then once that is completed restart your computer again and then log on and set your settings in the NVidia Display Control Panel.

Okay I am not kidding this really does happen to me every time I launch a non-Source engine game. Please help I know it has something to do with my graphics card driver but I have already tried uninstalling then installing again and no help.

  • I get a BSOD after login into steam PLEASE HELP ME :(

  • @metroidgoodsuit Does your system meet the minimum requirements? It probably does though that you can play Half-Life. Are your graphics card drivers up to date? Is your RAM corrupted? Also what is the error code you get and the technical information.

  • @AnimeSongGuy It sounds like there is a problem with the driver of your video card. The icons and background are probably like that as a failure to starting up the video card driver. You may want to update or reinstall your video card driver, if you know what the video card is search it up and download its driver from its official manufacturer website. To find your video card goto: Start Menu/Accesories/System Tools/System Information then Components/Display and it will be under Name.
