@666myhra666 no its not, the law says if it is done "fraudulently" then it is illegal. Since shooting or smashing a coin is not fraudulent, then it is legal. Have u seen those penny smasher machines around that make little souvenirs out of legal tender? Well those aren't illegal. Its mostly aimed towards people trying to alter and then spend the altered money.

I like to shoot coins also. Now I have to try at 100 yards with my 9mm instead of my 22. (I don't have a 45.) :(
I was putting my camera next to the target with a mirror showing my shooting position. I also drill a hole in a log to put the coin in so I can just dig it out after I hit it. If you hit it straight on the coin and the bullet are usually ejected in a straight line from the hole. A 45 probably will push it deeper?

It is 100 yards. I had to use an external zoom lens as well as full zoom on my camera to be able to see the quarter at all.

nope. It was a Colt Series 70 with a Barstow barrel.
