  • You do not use the tongue at all during the circular breathing action the only "body parts" doing anything are the lungs (blowing air, initially), the cheeks (which store air, and pull in, acting as a temporary set of lungs), the glottis (a valve at the back of your throat, which you cannot feel) which switches over to allow sniffed in air to be filling your lungs. The trick, which must be practiced is to do all this with minimum fluctuation of the tone.

  • OK - here is how I would describe this. You may need to think about this a few ways. The cheeks puff out a bit just so I can store air in them, to use temporarily while I sniff in a new lung full of air through my nose. The lungs still work the way they always do: They breathe in or breathe out. The trick is using a bit of air in your cheeks to allow for a quick breath in through your nose. Some circ breathers can do it with almost no puffing out, but they still do pretty much the same.

  • i have to thank you. ive been wondering how to circular breath for the longest time and because of you i now know. im in high school and have only been playing trombone for maybe 3 or 4 months, and trumpet for 3 years, but thanks to your video i now know how to circular breath and utilized it in a solo i had to do for jazz band. thank you

  • Great, glad to hear it. Keep working...I'll see you!

  • is double stop the same thing as multiphonics?

  • When your cheeks are puffed out, do you use your tongue to expel the air out and through the horn and how do you make it so the note is not re-articulated? Is there a way I can make it less obvious that I'm circular breathing?

  • what was the song called you played when circular breathing ??

  • why do u need to puff? sorry. im really curious.

  • I'm sorry but i still dun get it on the circular breathing. i've been playing my trombone 7 years and i'm from Singapore. :)

  • @crtune Ellis Wean, tubist with the Vancouver Symphony does entire bach cello suite movements with circular breathing

  • i have an awesome tone quality but how do i get it to be so clean like your tone.....and do you get the ring imprint on your lips after finishing playing
