Ok, i got the best video of a microwave plasma ball i have yet seen. I used a paperclip, with a small amount of paper towell on top, all covered in a small glass on stilts, which allows the air from the gasses to excape the glass. Dont use the stilts, and the glass will explode. Believe me, thats what happened last time. BTW, the idea for the paperclip under the paper towel, which worked the best, came from my friend Zack Sharp. In the video, he is the one that slaps me. Im the guy who shakes his head no.

You only need carbon. Try to use a graphit stick under a glas. What burns is the carbon dust which gets excited from the microwave. Use thin glas cause that wont burst when it gets hot. Or use glas with Borosilicate.
It is rather useless to experiment if you don`t understand what is going on...take some temp. messurements at least ;)
