Notice, when you have shots of Liz, she is wearing her brown leather driving gloves, but when there is a shot of the speedo, she is bare handed.

@Pepcycle Sounds like you're familiar with Thruway, I lived in Chicago those days and had friends in Rochester, drove on the Thruway all the time. One time we decided to drive all the way to New York City, that was a loooooong ride, I thought the Thruway was never ending. When I saw this movie back in 1960 that was the first thing I thought of when I saw the Thruway sign, miss those good old days, please take me back to those wonderful years !

The Alpine had a top-speed of 96mph and 0-60mph 14s. The Benz is a 300d that had 160hp. Top speed 106 mph and 0-60 17s.

@odeonparis An Alpine could outrun a Merc of that vintage easily. First she got a massive head start on him. Alpines are lighter and more nimble. Two Alpines of this era are not slow, probably good for at least 85 to 90 mph. The Merc on the other hand is a barge. It handles terrible, and the engine in it is not at powerful as it seems, especially when it is towing close to 2 and half tons of steel. These cars are good for I'd imagine about 70-80 but not much more.

@3bar and maybe the cars

An Alpine outruns a Mercedes? I don't think so, least of all on a freeway.

Actually, they are both hot. And the scene is hot.

A true screen legend indeed. We will miss you Elizabeth Taylor.

The building across the street with a view of the Hudson is Las Margaritas Mexican Restaurant now.
50 cents for the toll. You know it's an old movie.
