In order to provide safe passage for hikers and stock along the new Emory Peak Trail in Big Bend National Park blasting is required. The blasts will effectively "bench" an area with a steep cross-slope of bedrock. This is footage from those blasts performed by Big Bend Trail Crew and National Park Service staff in September of 2010. The new trail meanders through the Chisos Mountains providing easier hiking grades, spectacular views to the vast desert floor and ends at the highest peak in Big Bend National Park, Emory Peak.

The new Emory Peak Trail is officially opening in November of 2010.
