A great track Keith wrote, from his hit 1988 album "Don't Close Your Eyes." This one really shows his sense of humor. The song is set to scenes from the Monkees' 46th episode called "Monkees on the Wheel," with special guest stars Vic Tayback and Rip Taylor.

SING ALONG WITH KEITH!!!

When you walked out of my life
I didn't think that I'd survive
Hope was growing dimmer day by day

But much to my surprise
Lord I made it out alive
An' my world is looking anything but grey

I came through with flyin' colors
A little black and blue
From the wear and tear
But love got the best of me
An' I turn green with jealousy
When you made it crystal clear you did not care

I came through with flyin' colors
My eyes are red from cryin' the whole night through
I should win the Purple Heart
'Cause you tore mine all apart
But I came through with flyin' colors
After losin' you

Yes I've got a yell'er streak
'Cause I know the flesh is weak
An' I still get pale whenever you're in sight

I may shade out of my mind
Oh but I'm not color blind
'Cause I've learned that love ain't only black and white

I came through with flyin' colors
A little black and blue
From the wear and tear
But love got the best of me
An' I turn green with jealousy
When you made it crystal clear you did not care

I came through with flyin' colors
My eyes are red from cryin' the whole night through
Oh I should win the Purple Heart
'Cause you tore mine all apart
But I came through with flyin' colors
After losin' you

Oh I should win the Purple Heart
'Cause you tore mine all apart
But I came through with flyin' colors
After losin' you

  • im sorry if i came on rude its just i know what you say is true and i didint mean to offened you if i did we all are different and im glad you agnolage that

  • Hey, I know that when all you know is what you know, that's all you've got to work with. People can tell you how it was and how it used to be, but you're still not able to relate to that. Keith Whitley is considered to be the greatest country artist of my generation, period. Who yours will be is still yet to be determined, but by the looks of things, you may never have one. Things look pretty bleak in that department. And, despite your bad spelling I know exactly what you said.

  • LAME

  • Yeah, well, you were born after they stopped making real country music, when Garth was considered country, so you really don't have anything to base your opinion on. There are plenty of kids out there who look up to Keith as an influence. You're the only teenager who's ever had anything bad to say to me about him.

  • Great! And you have done a very nice job. Thanks:-)

  • Keith Whitley and the Monkees... To quote an old American TV commercial for Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, "two great tastes that taste great together." Thanks so much for stopping by!

  • Amen to that, first time I've ever heard this song...and by no means it this song LAME!!! That offends me, KEITH WHITLEY IS THE GREATEST EVER!!!! "Saraph15", if you don't like this song, in my opinion you are LAME! Have a great day!

  • I assume Keith never sang this song on TV, which is a shame, because it's one of my favorites.

  • Thank You for posting, Keith really had this ability to step way out on a limb..vocally speaking..he takes your ears for a sweet ride that leaves you in awe for quite sometime, for me it was since the mid 70s bluegrass.Thank You Keith.

  • keith whitley best ever
