The Kent County Lunatic Asylum was opened in 1833 at a site on Barming Heath just outside of Maidstone.

The photos in this collection show the original building (St Andrew's House) as it was in 1989. At this time the hospital was referred to as the Psychiatric Wing Of Maidstone Hospital. Parts of the hospital were still open but the St Andrew's House building had already closed.

The opening photos show some site plans of the hospital from around the same time. The current Maidstone General Hospital is also visible on this photos.

The later photos show some of the interiors of St Andrew's House, including one of the padded cells that had not been removed.

The final photos show a few scenes of the building as it is today; converted to residential use.

David Bowie provides the music.
