I do this with my Percheron sometimes ^^ He's 21, but acts 5 haha... I only rode ponies before him, but big horses are amazing!

Yeah it's kinda scary when you are a 5'4" 120lbs girl on a 2 1/2 ton 19 hand Belgian. I was told he would only grow to be about 16 hands. But I love him soo much and he is really good. But I wonder what happens if one day he decideds he's had enough.
Sorry I missed getting your opinion on saddles for drafts (???)I ended up getting advice on saddles from someone else w/videos on here training a Percheron. They had Wintec Wide A/P (easychange gullets & CAIR panels) but said it sits like a postage stamp on him (lol) so they changed to Wintec Isabell (deeper, grippy seat is more secure, and longer flaps)..I'll prolly go w/the Isabell, too-just hope the panels are set wider apart to best fit wide-backed horses. You never did mention what you use?

Hi! I do use a Wintec Endurance wide (the white metal insert) on him. Super comfortable and grippy. I think any saddle on a big draft will look like a postage stamp! :o) I have thought about the Isabell as well. Working with someone who know more than I about a dressage saddle fit right now, so it will be interesting to see what she has to say. Let me know what you get.

Aw when he gallops past its just amazing to see his size, and the size of his huge strides!
He looks very beautiful. Its amazing how much power they have. My horse is quite narrow but faily tall, I imagine it would be a completely different experience galloping a draft!

Hi! Thanks, he's a good horse. I've had him since a babe, and his training has been slow but sure. Just now he is getting so he canters right out of a trot. It can be a little intimidating galloping 6 feet up in the air! I've ridden with a girl who had a hand TB, but he dwarfed that skinny horse! He may be big, but he really is agile when he wants to be. He is so wide, so it is hard to get a good grip around him. Good saddle and full seat breeches help a lot!

How old is he?
lol, yes! you'd need all the grip you can get to stay on! I rode one of my friends horses, who was over 17 hands, and just that difference felt really wide! when i dismounted I felt like my leg muscles had been stretched

Hi Again, He will be 9 June 1. If I haven't ridden him for awhile, I am really sore the next day. I'f like to try him western, but I did that once and when I got off, my shirt got stuck on the horn, I was pinned up against him and good thing he didn't run away because I was in a pickle. My husband rode him once and said it was like riding an oil tanker truck. Haha, but so true! Good for the inner thighs though...:o)
