ESPINO Coalition
2008 Central Valley
Youth Organizing Summit
No Child Left Behind . . . . . Bars
2008 proved to be a pivotal year in the development of the ESPINO Coalitions capacities to organize youth in the Central Valley of California. On October 3rd the ESPINO Coalition convened its fourth annual Youth Organizing Summit at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton with 300 high school and college age youth participating in a day of educational, motivational, and skill building workshops.
This summit was followed in November by a statewide convening in Los Angeles, Revolution In Our Times (RIOT) for a weekend of strategizing and planning for a Youth Platform with the goal of developing a Youth Bill of Rights.
One Hundred and thirty youth from the four California regions gathered on the USC campus to create synthesis and solidarity among youth and youth organizers to begin the process of building a massive youth movement around to issues of youth incarceration, education equity and other youth issues. This year promises to be even more dynamic in the area of youth organizing.
