Hainan Island is connected to the Chinese mainland by a train ferry opened in 2007. A new service operates from Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou (Canton) to the beautiful tropical beach resort of Sanya. Here is the new Sanya - Beijing service being propelled onto the train ferry by DF4DD 1028 and DF4DD 1027 (both not on video).

  • There can't be too many cars that make up the train

  • IIRC it is made up of 14 coaches which are split into 3 - 4 - 4 - 3 for loading into the ships hold.

  • in denmark we closed the ferrys in 1996. train ferrys for big national routes are to bad. but in dk we have a ferry to germany(rødby - puttgarden) where some ICE are ferryed over towards hamborg-berlin or towards copenhagen:D

  • Decades ago in the United State there were train ferries everywhere but with the demise of passenger train travel (not talking about regional/commuter train service) in the United States the train ferries were dismantled.

  • lol awesome..

  • just mind blowing

  • Amazing. I guess there was a long bridge to connect Hainan and Mainland China...
