The Canadian women's hockey team is in hot water for their celebration after beating the U.S. in Thursday's gold-medal game. After the game, players openly drank and smoked on the court -- and now the International Olympic Committee is investigating.

Hockey Canada apologized Thursday for an impromptu party the Olympic women's hockey team threw for itself on the Canada Hockey Place ice after winning the gold medal.
The International Olympic Committee said it will investigate the celebration, which included drinking by one of Canada's underage players.

In a statement released late Thursday, Hockey Canada apologized.

"The members of Team Canada apologize if their on-ice celebrations, after fans had left the building, have offended anyone," the statement read.

"In the excitement of the moment, the celebration left the confines of our dressing room and shouldn't have. The team regrets that its gold medal celebration may have caused the IOC or COC any embarrassment.

"Our players and team vow to uphold the values of the Olympics moving forward and view this situation as a learning experience."

Marie-Philip Poulin, who at 18 is not old enough to legally drink in British Columbia, was one of the players taking part in the post-game boozing.

Later in the night, Poulin met the media at the Molson Hockey House, but answered only two questions that were restricted to the game.

  • We Canadians know how to celebrate !

  • I love how the Americans comment on this like they have any idea what they are talking about. Maybe in your country you have severe problems with under age drinking, but in Canada its not that bad. Not to mention the "underage" chick is of age in her home province. lmao.. comon the drinking age in the us is 21. just goes to show that you guys are light weights and do stupid things when drinking. This isnt the US/ how about you stop trying to decide whats right and wrong out side your country.

  • @GNRxEla Of course, they wouldn't call themselves Americans, They're CANADIANS!?? We ALWAYS have beer after a hockey game!! We DID teach the world the best game in the world, but I guess, we neglected to mention, that BEER is mandatory!! You might not see NHLers do it, BUT beer is an ABSOLUTE! I'm sure the pros don't do it every night, but when THEY win their Stanley Cup, they'll forego the champagne, for BEER!

  • @upstart1234ify Yeah, okay. They're just Olympic Champions! FYI: In CANADA, we have beer after a CHAMPIONSHIP win. Or, recreationally! None-the - less, I DO think an Olympic GOLD medal, would qualify, as a championship win!! Hell, for that matter, in Canada, we have beer, win or lose!! I don't know too many "spoiled little girls" that play hockey, JOKER! Most of the girls, who make our team, have played "full body contact" with boys all their lives. Go Canada ,Go!

  • Yeah. Beat us at any other sport. Wont happen.

  • I remember this. I seriously don't understand what was wrong with this, they didn't do anything wrong.

  • Don't take Canadian women too seriously. The best thing to do is just ignore them. They are spoiled little girls.

  • There is nothing wrong with this, they can celebrate however they want in their own country.

  • Skating around the rink drunk is sooo FUN!!!!!!

  • @travboy757Find sportsmanship in CANADA? Are you legit? Partying on the ice with a beer, AFTER the media(they thought ) was gone. They did NOT do it in front of fans, or media, that they knew of.... They hid! Have you seen basketball players, football players, calling on cell phones after a touchdown? etc... These are players who have the ultimate respect for their opponents!! I think, it's the fact that Canada prevailed, and had the NERVE to celebrate, was the problem...no apologies

  • @ralphyization What? If the Canadians smoked than US wouldn't be as good? You're stupid.
