  • These days, the barricades are everywhere, Leon. Sometimes, history just starts up when you're not expecting it. Rosa Luxemburg is walking among us in these moments.

  • I just dug 'Rosselsongs' out for another listen. Brilliant album. It's even better now than when I last heard it.

  • Love it

  • @ AnOpheliaComplex I have been following the student demonstrations with great interest from where I live in the US. I am appalled at the police violence, and I hope you and your fellow students stay safe. I also hope this will give students and workers over here the inspiration to get active.

Indeed, Leon's song about the worlds police is very apt. The police where I live in the Pacific North West has killed a number of people.

Good luck to you and all those who struggle.

  • @splodgen [[PART 2]] This song is what reminds me that we students might just be winning our fight. When I first heard it six months ago I was despairing at the way people were just allowing the systematic destruction of everything I care about. I couldn't imagine barricades.

Last week I helped build them, around the space where we are laying out our alternative vision for education. This is a revolution of consciousness.

The barricades are here now, we are fighting, and we may just win.

  • @splodgen I'm writing this from inside the occupation at my university, London Met. The barricades are straight ahead of me, where we've blocked off the corridors to prevent staff from accessing the finance dept and HR offices. We're providing open, free alternative education here with no beaurocracy, no leaders, no money changing hands. We have all kinds of outside and inside speakers come in to talk to our students, in a situation of mutual respect and information sharing.

  • Where are the barricades? I think Leon, we have our answer with 50,000+ students out on the streets of London during the past week

There is a new generation of activists who are getting angry, as are a lot of older people with no jobs, no money and little future with the capitalist system.

So the barricades may be just around the corner.

  • Same old formula, same old song, reworked lyrics, sounds so soo tired now 40 years on ...

Where is the passion of the '70s & '80s, I still have it, as does Tony Benn in his collaborations with Roy Bailey ... ?

  • Superb! I shall look forward to a proper recording on Leon's next CD.

  • great to see you on utube.

    Thanks for posting this
