http://www.quesomanrulz.com/ http://twitter.com/quesoman - This tutorial is on an excellent time saving feature built into Windows Vista and 7 that most people do not know about. Symbolic Links create a fancy type of shortcut that creates a folder that acts like its a different folder which is useful for when you want to store data in once place, but something like a program needs it to be in a different place.

  • What would I put after C:\ if I wanted the symbolic link to go to SteamM

  • Great video....this seemed like the perfect option for me because I just built a brand new machine complete with a small SSD that houses windows and a large HDD for storage. The problem is that when I install programs into the folder that is symbolically linked to the HDD my available space on the SSD still decreases. Any thoughts on why this might be?

  • and tried again, and it aldought didn't worked! I don't know what to do! Pleeeeeeease help me, I'm desperate! By the way, love your video...

  • I wanna create symbol link fot ts3. I folowed your instructions, and it didn't work. Then i made TestFolder and tried again and it worked. Can you help me, I can't see where i made a mistake! When i press enter it won't work: The syntax of the command is incorect. I runed cmd like administrator and wrote : C:\Windows\system32>mklink /d D:\Electronic Arts C:\Users\Vucevic\Documents\Electronic Arts ... I tried, and it didn't work, then i copied all files from Electronic Arts in documents to D:

  • you do not have sufficient privileges to perform this operation????

  • great tutorial!

  • good post .. really appreciated.. its cleared my mind comparing unix symbolic link with this one... keep doing this work man i really like it

  • how to you link to a directory that already exists? I want C:\Users\Capoderra to point to D:\Users\Capoderra where D: is where I am going to keep all of my data. That way if something happens to Windows on my C: I only have to copy a clone to C: to get the OS working again and all my data on D: can just stay there.

  • Thanks....very informative
