This is the very nice FMS Spitifre! It comes in at 1.4m wing tip to wing tip, is made from tough EPO and looks mighty impressive in the air. Here I do the complete review with unboxing and flight report as well as how I modified and strengthened the main gear and give it more forward rake.

  • While I was watching this I thought of a different idea for beefing up the landing gear a bit. If you put some popsicle sticks in instead of the plywood it would work equally well for spreading the impact out over a larger surface area. You could hide them inside of the foam and prevent the mod from showing up altogether. I don't know how it would do long term but I think I'll try it. If it works well I'll let you know.

  • @7jsm7 Goodluck with that, the only problem I can forsee is that maybe on a hard landing the popsicle sticks would not be strong enough and break. When I finished and painted mine you can't even tell it's been done, especially not in the air. Still interested to know how yours turns out :)

  • What ESC are you using, and would the stock motor be adequate for a 5S conversion? And what spinner were you using in this video?

  • @3801Catcher I'm running an 80A esc but you can get away with a 60A. I don't know if the stock motor is 5S capable. The spinner I'm using is just one I picked up from my local hobby shop

  • hi, i saw your fms spitfire videos, great work, did the retract mod on my own one, works much better now.. and im going to do the free tailwhieel mod...i was thinking if you had any experience with flaps on the Spit aswell, how they work and stuff...anyway great video

  • @WarbirdFan66 Yeah I ended up installing split flaps on mine but when deployed she just doesn't want to land, keeps floating until she stalls so I just don't use em.

  • @PARTYjohn69 Alright, I will get a new motor while I'm at it

  • Great Review!

    Thanks!

  • You know it's gonna be a good review when he starts with "And I tell you what, am I excoiiiiiiiited!" Love the accent. Keep up the good work!

  • @PARTYjohn69 I had to go into my video editing program settings and select auto leveling, that balanced out all the levels. But yeah the spitfire looks like a good plane, the only thing that bothers me about it is the lack of space for a retracting tail gear system, but other than that I think it's a nice plane & I might add it to my fall purchase list... :- D
