Crossing the border: Dilemmas of Migration in Today's Global Village

Date: Wednesday, June 22nd, 16:30- 18:00

Immigration movements have been widespread in the history of mankind, leaving their mark on many societies. The global era -- the revolution in communication and transportation—increases the pull factors of immigration hubs in the eyes of potential immigrants. Immigration sheds light on the complex relationship with the "other". Does immigration bring cultures together in mutual development and progress or rather become a source of tension and discrimination? The Old Testament reminds the people of Israel that they were once strangers in a foreign land and must be amiable and sympathetic towards foreigners, "He ensures that orphans and widows receive justice. He shows love to the foreigners living among you and gives them food and clothing." (Deuteronomy 10:18, NLT). What challenges does modern immigration pose for us and how should we approach this phenomenon?
