@aspectusTV Economists are just as susceptible to corporate money as Republicans. We have something called the CBO which is basically what you are describing. They are a non-partisan group. However, the CBO cannot prevent the Republicans from ignoring it when it doesn't suit them. It cannot make the Democrats actually stand up to the GOP and call them out for doing so either. When the CBO report suits the GOP (it rarely does), you will never hear the end of it.

The Bush adminstration used very high stress tactics in order to push the bailout package. They said that the entire world was going to end if they did not pass the bailout and forced a vote (two actually) very quickly. They ramroded it through congress. They did the same thing with the Iraq invasion. Walker did it in Wisconsin, it is becoming a way to pass something that the majority does not support.

I dont understand why they don't draw from the near infinite pool of economists to play the role politians do, when those guys spew their garbage at least it 'sounds' professional.
