Sad to say all the teams that were good in the old days, suck now. My school used to go to nationals every year. Now we struggle to make it to states. Dedication, discipline and, hard work no longer exist in the program.
these routines where not easy (physically exhausting when you have to do them several hours a day, day in and day out even when you're not even in school...yes we had off campus training too and with weapons-i built a replica of those rifles & it fired)..because of who was in charge (the Major), who accepted nothing less than perfection from all drill team members regardless of team affiliation. cant speak for them these days but i don't knock em because i was part of that era's JV team.
I love these videos. I actually know all of these people in the videos. I was in the Scottish Guard my freshman year until i had to relocate to cali. BW was the BEST during the 94'-00' time frame. im class of 00'.The great high school glory days...I've seen the 2011 crew and they are nowhere near as precise as these guys were...we actually had to spill plenty of blood @ times in order to get the routines down as awesome as they where and have the strength to stop the spins on a pin point.
@urgayifyoureadthis Those weapons were only used during competition. The weapons had real chrome on them so they weren't used for practice. In the practice weapons, I knew some Black Watch members who would put weights in their practice weapons, so when they used these weapons, they FELT like 5 pounds. These guys would squeeze tennis balls flat. I saw them.
@chris1083 Not exactly. Freshmen year, freshmen went through a generic and simply training in the Scottish Guard. One or two may make it to the JV team, but it was rare. Sophmores an some juniors were in the JV, or Royal Guard, that performed a watered down and simpler version of the varsity routine. Juniors and Seniors comprised of Blackwatch and the final routine was much more demanding and a far cry from the JV routine. So the same routine was not performed by these guys for 4 years straight.
Im surprised they have been doing the same routine for over 10 years.
The reason they are so good is because the same group of kids learn this routine together from their freshmen years to their senior years. Same exact routine... by the time they reach senior year, they better be this good. Especially since they do the same routine every year for 4 years
omg.... ok...seriously... I have got to say these guys are the best... I don't know how they ever found that many people good enough to do shit like that... but these guys are better than ANY team I have ever seen.....seriously. And by any team I mean any including military drill teams like the four horsemen.. i am amazed..
