Religion, an open debate welcomed.

Human and animal sacrifice is condoned. great plagues. Makes people into lepers. Wipe out some whole cities.... Fiery serpants.... Capturing women and children...Cruelty to animals.. Blinding people... Should I point out the ridiculous claims in the bible? Should I point out that this is NOT where we should be getting our morals? I think I need to, I don't want to, but it is painfully obvious that we have a serious problem with religious beliefs and the effect they have on our world. Especially politically.

I personally try to sort fact from fiction, but I admit, I can see how people get sucked into believing all sorts of things. There are people out there without health care and they are fighting for the right to keep the health care industry a profit making industry - I have a real hard time with this? Seems that people will feel a certain way if enough people like Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity and throw in O'Reilly spew their ignorant views on topics like a public option on TV. Sadly the same will go with bloggers and people here on youtube. No-one, especially the media really put that much of a fuss up when trillions were being thrown around to rescue these bankers in their ivory towers, when the FED had increased their credit asset swaps some 2500% in one year? Where were the teabagging patriots?

So our world is filled with people who belive in things like Obama was born in Kenya, the world will end Dec 21st 2012 and all of that will not change, these people believe it to be true and they have faith...I am not here to bash people for what I see as ridiculous beliefs.. I am not here to test their faith that Obama is the anti-christ or anything like that at all, but I am here to talk about the Christian faith .

I would not call myself an atheist or even an agnostic, you can if you want, I do not find atheist to be all that bad of a word, much like truther to me, it does not clearly explain my views but it gives you a general idea... and feel free to point out how my human brain cannot even fathum the works of the devine creator, how the bible is the true word of your god, or better, point out how and where I am wrong, please.

i do prefer to be a free thinker. I think religion is mostly lies, a story meant to control the population. What about all the other Gods that came before Jesus, do you think the OT is relevant or just the NT? Do you think the earth is 6,000 years old? God made the earth in 3 days and everything else in the universe in one day? I just ind religion to be a form of control, I find the belief in End Times to be very scary, as these beliefs will influence peoples judgments.

Then that is your decision and I respect you for it. That is basically what freedom is right? Just don't be an ass about it and place people whom showed falt after mistaking a religion for a relationship, not all of us fall into that. Freedom is a two way street, God gave us the freedom to choose. The bible is not for bible-thumping, a book full of lessons, right and wrong, given to guide us, not control us. OT,God couldn't look at sin,NT he sent Jesus and everything changed. Not about perfection, just the relationship with your intelligent creator, Before I go and PRAY that my Lord in heaven smites your head with his wonders and rips your eyes open to see. The bible is the only book people have tried to destroy in history.

If you read the bible maybe you could answer some of your own questions. The Bible is Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth, a book of lessons, to guide us, not control us. You just have to answer the last one by yourself, and hey if the 'Christians' are wrong, you won't burn in hell, however, I'm sure its not such a pleasant thought to think about the possibility that YOU are wrong. Think hard on it, and maybe look outside your window and ask, can you paint a painting without an artist?

People are smarter than they have ever been. They are staying in school, going to college. Like you said years ago no one would second guess the bible. People are questioning things now. Its a real let down when you are raised in a militant Christian family then figure out in your 30's that it was all a bunch of shit. it doesn't matter if you pray or who you pray to, there is no sky-god.
