"Sam Hall" is an old English folk song written after an infamous English thief, who was hanged in 1707 at Tyburn. Johnny Cash performed the song on Sings the Ballads of the True West (1965) and American IV: The Man Comes Around (2002).

  • This song isn't an "old english folk song" it was written by Tex Ritter!

  • Hey Cash Fan, very cool to meet you. Thanks for commenting. Actually, Tex Ritter did a version of the song on his Blood on the Saddle album. Where did you find the information that Tex actually wrote it? Hope you have a great day. Have you heard Roughneck yet?
