no doubt whitney is the best at this type of song...she's a soprano and melinda's voice is deeper, an alto......but melinda made the song her own and pulled it off beautifully......i'd love to hear her sing some Etta James/ Koko Taylor classic gritty blues.

Everybody who tries Whitney Houston usually gets torn up by the judges for such a performances, especially by Randy. But Melinda Doolittle was so great that Randy actually suggested it for her! As if that weren't amazing enough, she's the only one on American Idol to ever pull off Houston.
