Yeah. They play pretty intense. Thats why they use Motocross helmets for the jammers and everyone wears lots of protection. I wish roller derby could be like this now.

I used to watch The Roller Game on Australian TV in the late 60s, early 70s, with teams (memory failing here) like the NY Bombers, and, I think, The Thunderbirds (they were always "the Good Guys"...red, white & blue, but of course!). Someone here please help me find footage of that stuff. I recall one night at Brisbane Festival Hall with scary clarity.

... means a greater influx of talent and new ideas. I've seen some flat-track games that certainly rival the agility, skill and intensity here, minus the high-kick, of course. :) Give it time, and if you get a chance, see the best - Seattle, Kansas City, Gotham, Texas - there's nothing but intensity there, especially when they play each other. And if we could have a true USA all-star team now from the female leagues - jesus. That would be a game to see, believe me.

Well, I know that at least one roller game competitor from this era is skating for the Puget Sound Outcasts and coaches some female leagues in the Pacific Northwest. I also know that while this particular skater is a super amazing skater and a great guy, there are many others who are nipping at his heels after only a few months of skating. The great thing about derby now is that almost anyone can do it. While that means less interesting games at the introductory level, certainly, it also....
