Rare footage and audio of King George VI speaking in public. His stammer becomes quite pronounced midway through.

You know the Titanic was a real boat too, right?

Even though Bertie stammered a little in this, I believe he was a great orator and, I find that in seeing his struggle, it made me feel like I wasn't alone. I have to recite a monologue for my drama class tomorrow, and I'm frankly terrified, but by knowing that a great man like him, a king, stammered and felt the same way I do, I feel a whole lot more confident, and hopeful that I can be like him when I say my monologue. Does anyone see where I'm going with this?

Anyone who has a fear of public speaking can understand how much more courage it takes for those with a speech impediment to speak in public to large audiences. This man could have refused the throne and let his Mother be regent until his daughter came of age, but he knew he had more to contribute than merely speeches. Because many people ignorantly believe how well a person speaks indicates how well they can think, the movie "The King's Speech" was an important film.

And this video shows the king after he'd been working with Logue for over a decade. So his stammer must have been a gazillion times worse than this to start with. Yes, he was brave. Also committed to duty. I never know what to think of the quaint tradition of monarchy, but I respect George VI and his daughter for taking their duty seriously and committing their lives to it to the best of their abilities, something not seen in most of the rest of the family.

Just finished watching the King's Speech - it kinda reminds me of Audery Hepburn in My Fair Lady
