Such a terrible way for the racing career of Age of Aquarius to have ended. After showing such heart against Rite of Passage over the punishing 2-1/2 at Ascot in the Gold Cup. I have absolutely no doubt had Age of Aquarius not gone bad in this race that he would've landed the Goodwood Cup on this day. JMO.
i was so happy to find this video on youtube... this all happened last summer, i'd looked at the racecard earlier in the morning, Age of Aquarius looked sure to be the winner but for me it was to be Illustrious Blue i would put my money on and so i did, i have no idea why on earth i chose Electrolyzer for a forecast though... i loved seeing this again!
I like and respect what Illustrious Blue has accomplished, with 7 course win's at Goodwood. That said, this win being his biggest ever had to be very bitter sweet. Because it's very likely that the best horse in the race was Age of Aquarius. He'd really started to come into his own in 2010. And wasn't racing badly in 2009. A 2nd place finish to Cavalryman in the 09 Grand Prix De Paris. Then three 2nd place finishes in 2010 to Harbinger, Rite of Passage, and Profound Beauty. A big loss to racing.
Age of Aquarius is one of my favourite horses, i was heartbroken to see him break down but thankfully it wasn't fatal and i wish him a long, happy and successful retirement in stud. It's a shame he didn't get the chance to fulfill what i'm certain is huge potential. But at least his distinctive white face, racing talent and genuine, willing attitude will be passed onto his sons and daughters.
