Every European culture needs a holiday about dressing up as monsters or demons, prior to a holiday celebrating the rebirth of the year. Or so it seems.

Maybe I need to do some research, but I'm catholic and this doesn't seem right. It seems very demonic. Scaring people is not a "joy" that Christ has given. Looks like Incubus there....I understand the point of Christ the bringing light to the world, but it seems to me that darkness is enjoyed here. just my 2 cents....maybe a nickel
In the Two Hearts
I agree that this is quite a bit different that what one might expect. I think the original tradition was more to emphasize the idea of St. Nicholas rewarding the good while the Krampus punished the bad - but more people like being the Krampus and it has become closer to Halloween I think.
