MARIA CALLAS LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR 1959

Maria Callas Ferruccio Tagliavini Piero Cappuccilli Bernd Ladysz in Lucia di Lammermoor direttore Tullio Serafin. La registrazione è del 1959.La EMI decise di reincidere alcune opere con Maria in modalità stereo e si decise per Gioconda(Scala:Ferraro,Cossotto,Cappuccilli,Companiez,Vinco,VOTTO), Lucia,Norma(Scala:Corelli,Ludwig,Zaccaria,SERAFIN) e poi Tosca nel 1965(Bergonzi,Gobbi,PRéTRE).La Callas ci regala un altro capolavoro e dimostra come con una voce non più al massimo delle potenzialità si possa delineare un personaggio più che perfetto nel canto nell'intonazione nella parola cantata e nella resa generale, tanto da sentire la presenza della sua Lucia anche quando non è in scena.Penso che in tanti avrebbero desiderato un integrale di Macbeth(programmato nel 1968 ma cancellato), di Anna Bolena, di Traviata(di cui curiosamente esiste una sola incisione in studio del 1952 per la Cetra con callas,Albanese e Savarese), di Don carlo, di Fanciulla del West(l'incisione EMI del 1958 con la Nilsson doveva cantarla Maria). Insomma tante speranze, di noi, poveri rimasti qui ad ascoltare i suoi dischi, di noi che avremmo voluto conoscerla, o sentirla dal vivo.Ma Maria ci guarda da lassù, e io le mando il mio più sincero tributo,grazie maria sei una persona nobile e meravigliosa

I think yes, this is the second complete Lucia by Maria Callas, the first was in 1953 with Serafin as conductor and Di Stefano Gobbi Ariè. In thi sLucia Tagliavini is at the end of the career and there is a splendid Piero Cappuccilli in one of hids first experiences

Dame Joan did not sing it to perfection the last ten years she did the role. She transposed the mad scene down a whole step you idiot. And Sutheland was a horrible LUCIA.. so unbelieveable.

Sutherland had a longer career for sure.. But so would you singing everything on UH... and no acting, no interpretation, and in the end transposing the mad scene down a whole step.

Callas attempted Lucia barely in a short period '52/'59 (as everything she did in her short career).She sang it as a soprano leggero (and even though missing several high notes , or very little and thin high notes).Only when Dame Joan Sutherland debuted in the role she sang it with perfection for a period '59/'90, 31 years as a dramatic soprano
