Ohio Congressman and Democratic Presidential Candidate Dennis Kucinich discusses the role he sees himself holding within the greater Democratic Party.

-----

Get to Know the Candidate: 2008 U.S. Democratic Presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich in a conversation with Joseph Epstein hosted by The Commonwealth Club of California.

Ohio Congressman Kucinich engages in a wide-ranging conversation about his political views and background.

Dennis Kucinich is an American politician of the Democratic party. He served as the 53rd mayor of Cleveland, Ohio from 1977 to 1979, a tumultuous term in which he survived a recall election and was successful in a battle against selling the municipal electric utility.

He today serves as the Representative (Member of Congress) for the 10th District of Ohio. It includes most of western Cleveland, as well as such suburbs as Parma and Cuyahoga Heights. He ran for President of the United States in 2004 and has announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for President in 2008. He is currently the chairman of the Domestic Policy Subcommittee of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

  • I'd vote for Kucinich if he ran in November... I have no intention of voting for Obama or Clinton under any circumstances!

  • racist mayor threatens to burn down black church in ohio. check out my video. Spread the word.

  • I like Kucinich a lot, but he didn't really answer the question.

  • so does australlia

  • New Zealand has a really cool election system. A combination of PR and instant runoff. And its very representative of the people.

  • Ron and Dennis would've made a great team.

  • Dennis, if I were you, I would switch to being either a third party or an independent. Even if you were to win the Democratic Party's nomination, you still wouldn't be able to shift it into your direction. The party, like the other major party, is corrupt and will no longer serve the interests of the people.

  • there IS a conflict, maybe not between us, but democracy is immoral, and the world should know. And before you say anything like 'its the best we got'.. No. a democracy will evolve into a despotic oligarchy, but a Republic: rule by law, is good as long as it lasts, and is based on natural laws. when a republic fails, the worst that can come of it is another form of the system so many love and die for: democracy/despotic-oligarchy.

    Viva la Republic

  • that was a reply to :FreiheitKampfer

  • he said "WHEN IT COMES TO BASIC CIVIL LIBERTIES"

    there is no conflict there

  • Instant Runoff Voting.

    Proportional representation.

Sell our prime time TV and radio airwaves to finance true public programming - PBS is corporately underwritten.

2000 citizens in each congressional district watching and instructing our elected representatives.

    Imagine the effect.
