  • If LSU played that at Southern not only would it sound better than Southern's Marching band, but LSU would also be beating the shit out of the Southern football team so badly the Southern Marching band would never have a reason to play Neck anyway.

  • @patboy07 Best band in the world my ass! Ever heard of FAMU? Blasting or "cranking" as they say it, as loud as one can on their horn hardly makes a band better. I personally like SU's arrangment of Neck more but they play it horribly. I don't like the LSU version but they know not to play outside of their control and sound like crap. That's the difference. Control (LSU) vs. no control (SU).

  • And Definently Not Better Than Southern at All

  • They Might Have Better Control Cuz LSU Dragss The Shitt off Everything. But They Still Have A Good Sound

  • LSU has much better tone and control than SU. Obviously. But...I'd much rather listen to SU play it. Yea, "Cranking" isn't a very good display of musicianship, but it much better fulfills the purpose of a stand tune (in my opinion), which is to pump up the crowd and the football players. Of course, SU probably does it better because their players need it more...You don't see their football team winning championships...

  • I still go to High scool and play for the band in Cypress, Texas and I am definitely going to lsu for the program. Own'em LSU!

  • All I know is that Katy stricktland have EAHS LSU's neck and we play their version!!

  • @225carter Do you have any facts behind that? I know exactly what you're talking about. It was at that parade of champions after the 2003 national championships. I'm sure SU played Neck and I'm sure some people at LSU liked it and started thinking about playing it one day. But I don't think the rest went down like that. The directors didn't ask them for the music. Anyone one with a music degree should be able to arrange either version. Plus, LSU didn't start playing it for another 3 years.

  • @kvnftzsmmns The song is from a group called Cameo...LSU got it from Southern University...which is a show style HBCU band in Baton Rouge also..when LSU and Southern did an event downtown baton rouge and LSU director liked asked for the music and when he got it he put his own lil twist on it

  • I bet if LSU played Southern at Tiger Stadium (hopefully they play each other in 2013), both bands would enjoy the other band. It is just the fans don't enjoy the opposite band. I am saying that probably SU band players like LSU's band, and LSU band players like SU's band. BR has to stick together. SU has the number 1 show style marching band and LSU has the number 1 core style marching band in my opinion. But there is no college band in the country to be unanimous number 1.

  • Cameo back in the 80s then bands from the HBCU and non-HBCU schools started playing this song after that.

  • can anyone tell me who originally wrote this song? is it an LSU original or is it by a hip-hop artist?
