This clip shows an excerpt of my MIX10 Keynote, where we demonstrate the power of pen and touch, combined, on a single display, to provide the user interface for a powerful painting tool, Project Gustav. The pen+touch display is prototype hardware developed for us by Wacom Technologies. The paint program and the UX design were developed at Microsoft Research. See the related video "Manual Deskterity: An Exploration of Simultaneous Pen + Touch Direct Input" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sTgLYH8qWs as well as other videos of Project Gustav on YouTube.

  • This only a painting from technology and a replicate, it never can be a art

  • @friendsonearth

Why would you not say the same thing about an image made with "technologies" such as oil, watercolour, graphite, ink, engraving, mosaic, etc.? None of them "make" art. Rather, they are just part of the process.

The video's intent was not to make art, but to focus on the innate potential of the human, and the need to take full account of this in the design of technology. I hope this helps clarify. Bill

  • @friendsonearth then you dont know what art is. Art is not defined by its methods, but by interpretation

  • Very interesting, thanks for sharing.

Is the generated image in vectors? All that zooming and panning was very fast and impressive - I did not notice artifacts caused by stretching.

  • Canada's finest.
