This is a short video of a 111km "closed" gliding task between Rattlesden, Sudbury, Tibenham (Norfolk) and back to Rattlesden.
While not a big task by today's standards (on the same day many 300Km and 500Km flights took place), it was the first for this pilot of more than 50Km (or 100Km).
Take off was by winch at 12:30, returning two and a half hours later. The weather was very good, with 5500 feet cloud base and some thermals averaging "5" up, peaking "10" a few times. In the early part of the flight, strong thermal "streeting" NW-to-SE was very apparent.
On the way back, a pair of Buzzards was met just south of Diss, managing to get a brief video clip of one of the pair flying by.
The longest leg between Sudbury and Tibenham (58Km) qualified for FAI Silver distance.
A great day out and back.
