Running Windows XP in Sun xVM Virtualbox on Ubuntu 8.10. Once you get USB support working on Virtualbox everything else is easy. Install the Virtualbox Guest Additions and you can run Virtualbox in seamless mode. Windows XP sits on top of your Ubuntu desktop and you can run any Windows XP program. You need to disable all the visual effects in Ubuntu to get it to run with no graphical glitches but the glitches don't bother me to much.

Windows XP programs running:
Windows Explorer
Internet Explorer
AVG Anti-virus
Goggle Chrome
Itunes - I had no problems putting in my iPod Shuffle and adding music, I even ran the restore program. I've heard it also works on the iPhone and iTouch but I can't guarantee it!

  • hey make a tutorial to get it please

  • i feel sorry for those old users that have mediocre lives and can't afford a new PC or can afford to upgrade.

  • I've been using it for a while now, I know my way around it, but if I want to do something new (like that time I wanted to change my theme to a custom one) it still takes a lot of Google searches.

  • @bvjorge

It's the Ubuntu default theme, it's not that complicated to change it.

Also Ubuntu has a lot of older users, that don't want some flashy hot eye-candy interface. It will only slow down there pc.

When you know your way a bit, you can make Ubuntu look way better then Windows7 though!

  • @Juilkca

WINE is software that's made to run windows programs in linux distro's itself.

Virtualbox is an OS-emulator, so you run an OS in a Linux OS.

  • @PoliticalHell

M8, It is easy to install, the guide is meant for users who don't know there way around Linux OS distro's.

Ubuntu takes some time to figure out, but once you've been trough it, it's so easy.

  • Lol, look up what arrogant means. You're one of those people that learned it a while ago and now it's easy for you so you smirk at people who say it's harder or that don't have experience with it yet.

And I don't expect to open it and know it, but I don't expect to be required to be a high-end computer user to master it either. You know what it takes to use it, so quit denying it.

P.S. Your egocentric logic skews your perception of reality in these matters, apparently.

  • I'm not being arrogant. You are. It's insanely easy. YES, you have to learn how to use it, read a little etc. You sound like you just wanna open an OS and just know how to use it. No dice. It takes learning, but its NOT even close to hard. Get over yourself, you're just mildly retarded.

  • I complain just enough in my opinion. Almost anyone that's not a Linux zealot will tell you that it's not as easy as advertised, and takes a significantly higher learning curve then Windows or Mac. Simply put, it's not as easy as you arrogantly try to make it out to be.

  • LOL, you complain too much. Linux is easy. Ubuntu 8.10 was the first time I had used it and it didn't get any simpler.
