@wloma So the Crusaders had to hold the place for 800 years to win? Overall, I'll take it: 1) No more invasions of W. Europe. 2) Took back Spain. 3) Deflected the "religion of peace" into India and the Balkans where they massacred themselves into backwardness. 4) Opened trade routes and technologies. 5) Got protection for our pilgrims.
I'd call that a win. There are many different levels of victory. But given the above, the Crusades were totally worth it, and successful.
