This was one cool dude with an amazing voice. R.I.P. Dan we all miss and love you.

What an amazing songwriter.

I thought he was probably a Christian because of certain things in his lyrics and his amazing sensitivity but in the last verse of this song, it sounds like he didn`t believe in heaven, so probably not, at least at that point in his life.

Don't know how I missed it, but never heard this song until the early 80s. I was then in my second semester of college. It was a time of upheaval, particularly regarding romantic relationships as well as my nascent ideas about the world we live in. Can't recall those long-ago, painfully confused days without "Part of the Plan" resounding through my memory:) --

My first hearing of Part of the plan. Dan referred to a love forlorn, that fell by the wayside because he was not ready for this relationship. Also because the lass in question was very fragile and vulnerable so he did not want to break her heart. Unfortunaetly Dan I think at that time, in hine sight you most likely did anyway... You had to be cruel to be kind, as the saying goes...!!!! Enjoyed the guitar riffs. very much indeed. I wonder what type of guitar Dan was playing ? Help please ?

He made a permanent impression. This song single-handedly got me through a challenging year. I played it daily. Thanks to Joe Walsh (Cleveland rocks!) , Graham Nash, Russ Kunkel and everyone else who made this gem.
Thank you so much for your share. A great singer/songwriter. sadly missed
