Felicia & Lorna Argue in the Park--Felicia Smacks Lorna

After leaving Kevin's apartment, Lorna goes to the park. Felicia finds her there and admits that she followed Lorna to Kevin's, saw Kevin leave, and then followed Lorna here to the park because she needed to see that Lorna was okay. Lorna is trying not to cry in front of Felicia, and says that there's something to be said for being an orphan. Felicia wants to know what's wrong, and Lorna says Felicia doesn't want to know. Felicia asks if Kevin hurt Lorna, and Lorna replies not in the way Felicia thinks. Felicia tells Lorna to just talk to her. People she's never even met stop her on the street to talk to her about their problems, but Felicia's own daughter talks to her in code. Fighting tears, Lorna says maybe that's because Felicia's own daughter thinks she's impossible. Felicia tries to lighten the moment by asking what that says about Lorna, but it only makes Lorna angry. Lorna tells Felicia she didn't ask for Felicia's advice and she doesn't want it. Felicia says she doesn't want to hurt Lorna, she wants to help Lorna. Lorna tells Felicia to just stay away from her, then. Felicia says she can't stay away because she cares about Lorna too much. Lorna replies that Felicia says that all the time, but Lorna would never do this to her own kid. "Do what?" Felicia asks. "Love you more than anything that you could even imagine?" Felicia knows that she came into this motherhood thing late, but she couldn't love Lorna more if she had raised her from the first day. Lorna tells Felicia not to take her frustrations with her own life out on Lorna. Felicia just doesn't want anything bad to happen to Lorna. Lorna tells Felicia to take her grief somewhere else and handle it, and let Lorna handle her own grief in her own way. Felicia asks what that means. Lorna says she's trying to find her father's killer, and she's not in the way of the police. Felicia says that until they have some answers about Kevin, Lorna is betraying Lucas every time she even talks about Kevin. Lorna insists that she is not doing that, but all Felicia can see is that her daughter is being used by somebody. Lorna sarcastically says that's nice, and it's a lot easier for Felicia to jump on the bandwagon and railroad Kevin because it's too hard for Felicia to face that Lucas's killer is still out there. Felicia tells Lorna that Lorna is doing exactly what she has always done: letting her libido tell her brain what to do.

"Well, maybe that's your problem, Mommy," Lorna replies coolly. "Maybe you didn't do enough of that while Lucas was still alive. Maybe if you used your brain a little less and you gave Lucas a reason to stay home, he wouldn't have gone out that night and gotten himself shot!"

Felicia's response is to smack Lorna across the face, a move that shocks both mother and daughter.

Instantly remorseful, Felicia says she shouldn't have hit Lorna. Lorna, fighting tears again, says she asked for it. Felicia says she still doesn't trust Kevin. Lorna replies that she does, and she'd bet her life on it, and then she walks away, leaving Felicia in tears in the park. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.
